The Psychologists at Astoria Clinic  are passionate and committed to ensuring that all clients receive the highest standard of care and a positive experience of counselling.

At Astoria Clinic, we understand that many people feel nervous about attending counselling, so we ensure that we spend as much time as possible in the first session discussing their goals and motivations for attending therapy and outlining what they can expect from the sessions. We are committed to working from a client centred approach, which means that therapy is guided by a clients’ individual goals and completely at their own pace. We also utilise a range of interventions to ensure that all clients are met with an individualised therapeutic approach.

Our Child Psychologist provides therapy, counselling and treatment for children and adolescents while our principal Psychologist focuses on adults who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. Our Psychologists also provide relationship counselling to couples who feel that they need some help and support to get them back on the road to better communication.

Meet The Team

Joanna Bell – Principal Psychologist

B.Psych (Registered Psychologist), PsyBA Approved Supervisor, MAPS

I have 10 years’ experience in the corporate and non-profit sectors, working as a clinician and in management roles. My previous experience, includes being on several advisory committee’s in the community sector and managing a large psychological service for a non-profit organisation. I also have experience in delivering workshops and training for professionals working in a variety of fields. I was also fortunate to present at the International Mental Health Conference in 2014 and 2015.

I decided to open my own practice in 2015, with the vision of creating a safe, inclusive space for anyone seeking therapy. I believe that therapy is beneficial in many ways, not only for treatment of mental health diagnoses, but also for self-development and personal growth. Aside from my work, I enjoy spending time with my family, yoga, good coffee, my pets and the beach.

Katie Hammond

B.Psych (Registered Psychologist), PsyBA Approved Supervisor, Assoc. MAPS

I’m a registered Psychologist with 10 years’ experience in both public and private sectors. I work with children, adolescents and adults to address issues related to trauma, attachment, behavioural difficulties, bereavement, depression and anxiety. I work within a non-judgmental framework to establish a collaborative therapeutic relationship with my clients. My approach is informed by my training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy , Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Relational Life Therapy (RLT) and Child Centred Play Therapy.

While talk is often the primary approach with adolescents and adults, I also have a play space for pre-school and school aged children (I see children from 3 years of age). In addition to direct client work, I offer parent training and consultation. I specialise in family relationships which includes individual, couples and family therapy.
